The yellow or white gold ruby wedding band is priced the same and you will also not need be charged extra for doing an etching inside the band. **18k or 14k** wedding bands can be ordered, but we recommend 14k gold because of it's hardness. Consider a 14k ruby wedding band at least for the men's ring as, men do not take as much care of their jewels as the ladies do. Men's wedding bands should therefore be made more sturdy and durable as compared to lady's wedding bands.

Luckily the choice between **yellow or white gold** for ruby wedding bands is an easy one as, the ruby gemstone looks gorgeous in white or yellow gold. Certain gemstones like very dark blue sapphires or even very deep purple amethyst gemstones, would appear even darker and almost black if set in white gold. Insist on genuine ruby gems: Make sure that your wedding band has a genuine ruby gemstone and is not cleverly described as a 'synthetic ruby, 'created ruby', 'lab ruby', 'lab created ruby', 'man made ruby' or 'simulated ruby'. We really need not get into the fine difference between these trade terms, just remember that there are two types of ruby gems, one is genuine rubies and the other is synthetic or man made rubies. A synthetic ruby can look awesome with better color, better clarity and ofcourse better price as compared to a genuine ruby gemstone. The fact is that it is only genuine rubies that have a value attached to them. You really should not waste gold on a ring that has a synthetic gemstone.

Origin of the ruby gemstone: Genuine rubies are mined in many countries, Burma, Africa and Thailand are some countries where rubies originate. Since this is a special occassion ring and the gemstone size is not very large (large sizes of Burmese rubies can be very expensive), there is no need for you to settle for any ruby other than a ruby from Burma. We procure our rubies directly from miners in Burma which is just across the Thai border. Our experts closely inspect each gemstone and do custom cutting for every single piece.

Grades of ruby gemstone: The gemstone in your ruby wedding band is the highlight of your ring and you should therefore learn a bit more about the gemstone. Besides the countries in which they originate, rubies also differ in grade and better quality rubies obviously cost more. The features which would define the grade of a ruby gemstone include color uniformity, clarity, color and cut. A good ruby would be one that has more red and less pink tones, the color on the gemstone would be more or less uniform and it should not be dark and light colored in patches. The clarity of the ruby gemstone in your wedding band is a little more difficult to explain. If you held the gemstone against the light, a ruby which allows more light to pass through would be considered as a better gemstone. A medium grade ruby gemstone would have a good color, but the clarity could be low.
